VMX-250 with Modular Camera System Option

Last November the new modular camera system was tested in an exciting digital 3D documentation project in cooperation with Universita IUAV di Venezia, Lab System, CIRCE Photogrammetry Lab, www.iuav.it, by simultaneously acquiring scan and image data of the entire famous Venetian cultural heritage of Grand Canal.

The acquired scan and image data was exemplarily used by our partners for post-processing.

“The scan density and image quality of the system are very high, so that the data is not only suitable for simple city models but also for highly detailed architectural models and orthophotos. With an absolute accuracy of a few centimeters and image resolution of 5mm at 20m distance, the data is suitable for many applications. We used them to create high resolution orthophotos and detailed 3D building models, which can serve as the basis for restoration and historical research.”

“Based upon the orthoganal projection of the pointclouds, we drew 2D-CAD plans of facades. Data quality proofed by far sufficient to produce 1:100 scale plans of the facades. Internal evaluation of the data revealed that the precision of the CAD drawings complied approximatively with degree 2-1 of ÖNORM standard A6250, while information density complied with degree 3 of the quoted standard. Deformations as well as settlements and other damages of structure were distinctively recognizable.”

The sensational results of the Venetian project, attesting that the VMX-250 is optimally applicable for mobile, simultaneous acquisition of high resolution scan and image data, will be presented at SPAR 2011, in the lecture of Nikolaus Studnicka, taking place at Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the afternoon session.
