The Roman Domitilla Catacomb is located on via Ardeatina, in the vicinities of a series of other antique graveyards outside the Roman city walls. For its enormous and until today unmeasured extension, it is considered to be the largest catacomb in Rome. Covering a life span of roughly four centuries, Domitilla incorporates all stages of a typical catacomb evolution.
The main goal of the Domitilla project is to produce a complete, high quality documentation of the architecture and paintings of the catacomb, based on 3d laser scanning data, and to combine all kinds of methodological approaches to a synthetic, equilibrate use of them for the archaeological debate.
